Weekly poem on Trump Presidency

Election, 2016

I spend half the night wrestling

with a devil in plaid pajamas,

the suitcase sitting near the door

urging me to call it a truce.

The bullet that wanders through

my body finally hits its mark.

No, not the heart, but the window

of a low rent hotel room in

the eastern corner of my abdomen.

            The desk clerk dropping keys

into rows of small wooden cubbies

startles at the sound and reaches

for the phone, but the line is dead.
